While this newsletter shares mostly good news we also occasionally share public health notices or safety information. Today we want to mention that even in small towns there are probably a couple dozen registered sex offenders. The primary purpose of mentioning this is to make the information easily available and accessible, not to warn about any specific individuals.
Illinois law mandates that the Illinois State Police (“ISP”) establish and maintain a statewide Sex Offender Database, accessible on the Internet, identifying persons who have been convicted of certain sex offenses and/or crimes against children and who must register as a Sex Offender. The Sex Offender Registry was created in response to the Illinois Legislature’s determination to facilitate access to publicly available information about persons convicted of sex offenses.
Neither the Board of Directors of Dunlap Lake Property Owner’s Association nor the ISP has considered or assessed the specific risk of re-offense with regard to any individual prior to his or her inclusion on this Registry; and no determination has been made that any individual included in the Registry is currently dangerous. Individuals included on the Registry are included solely by virtue of their conviction record and Illinois state law.
A search of the Sex Offender Registry may be conducted at: http://www2.isp.state.il.us/sormap/
Anyone who uses the information set out in the Sex Offender Registry to commit a criminal act against another person is subject to criminal prosecution.
