5 Candidates seek 3-year term: March 2020 through February 2023; 1 candidate for 2-year term

Tobias (Toby) Heddinghaus – 165 Hollyhock
– 9 months in Dunlap Lake Association
– Occupation: Architect, part owner of Gray Design Group in St. Louis.
– Education: Bachelor of Architecture from Kansas State University
– Reason for seeking a board term: As a new resident I am excited about all things Dunlap Lake. I think the lake community has a very bright future, my wife and I intend to stay here long after our girls are off to college and so I want to do my part to maintain and improve the wonderful and unique amenity that we all share so close to the center of Edwardsville.
– Prior service – I’ve not had the opportunity yet to volunteer but would be interested in doing so, perhaps Building, CAM, Silt & Erosion
– Shawna and I grew up in Mid-Missouri and my family spent nearly every weekend driving to a nearby lake for boating, and to Lake of the Ozarks or Pomme de Terre lake for camping vacations. After 25 years, it is great to be back by the water and even better to be able to be so close to our schools, church, and our businesses.

Josh Schumacher – 118 Branch Drive
– 3 years in Dunlap Lake Association
– Occupation: Attorney, practicing at the law firm HeplerBroom LLC
– Reason for seeking a board term: In the summer of 2016 my wife and I fell in love with a nice craftsman-style home at the end of a quiet street in Dunlap Lake. Years earlier, our family had lived in mega metropolises like Washington, DC and Philadelphia, so we loved the idea of a small street in a close-knit community. The fact that our four children could hang a fishing pole in a lake whenever they felt like it or take out a weekend kayak without ever needing to get into a car, was simply icing on the proverbial cake.
– Being new to the community, at the time I was unfamiliar with some of the issues facing the Lake, and the consternation the Board was facing of how to best move the Lake forward in a way that most residents could support. I have slowly become more involved both in the greater Edwardsville community, and here at Dunlap Lake over the last 5+ years of living in Edwardsville, and 3+ years of living here at Dunlap. Here at the Lake, I have helped build kayak stands, and regularly attended various meetings, and have admittedly contributed more than my fair share of thoughts surrounding our neighborhood and community.
– That being said, I don’t ever want to be a “keyboard warrior,” always expressing a position or opinion or thought, but not being willing to put in the work to help my neighbors and community thrive and prosper. When my wife and I purchased our home, we did so under the expectation that we would make this house a home for the next several decades – completing the raising of our children and maybe (hopefully) welcoming grandchildren into these halls in the future.
– So, in a nutshell, I’m seeking a Board position because I want to invest in Edwardsville and Dunlap Lake; to assist in continuing to make the Lake a thriving community for all of its varied residents.
– Prior service – As noted above, I have assisted in building several of the kayak stands that now dot some of the shorelines and common areas in the Lake. I have become a regular attender at Board meetings in an effort to gain a more in-depth understanding of both the workings of the Association Board and the issues facing the Lake in the near and foreseeable future.
– I sit on a few other state and local non-profit boards – I’m invested in our community. I’ve also got a wonderful wife (Taylor) and four awesome kids (Joshua, Theresa, Ethan & Henry) who probably can’t imagine living in any other place. Dunlap Lake is an integral part of the City of Edwardsville for a wide variety of reasons, whether it be the nature it attracts to our community (Bald Eagles! Right here in E’ville!), its function as a part of the City’s storm water management plan, or the fact that it provides “lake living” at a level of affordability few lake communities can rival. Dunlap Lake has been here for three generations (as evidenced by the number of second and third generation Lake residents I’ve met)! I’m committed to doing my part to ensure our Lake thrives for many more generations to come.
